Mapleton Jr. High School is pleased to announce the October 2011 Students of the month.  Each academic area selects one outstanding student per grade level to represent their department for student of the month.  In order to be selected these students must show superior academic achievement along with exceptional citizenship.  On Tuesday October 25th the MJHS students of the month were invited to a pizza party to celebrate this fantastic accomplishment.   The students of the month for October are (listed by academic area):

Students at Mapleton Junior High School learned how to be drug free last week with Red Ribbon week. The service learning class helped by making posters and hanging them up around the school. The posters encouraged us not to do drugs and showed the consequences of taking them. During lunch time students took pledges to be drug free.  These pledges were posted in a large display on the wall near the front office.  The student body participated in the weeks activities by dressing up in fun crazy outfits. On Tuesday was sock out drugs day, where kids could wear their crazy socks.

It has been a low-key week here at Mapleton Junior High, however we have had some sports events and daily activities that are worth mentioning. 

Last Thursday, Mapleton Jr. High hosted yet another very successful sports day for all special needs children from the junior high schools in Nebo School District.  Under the direction of Coach Linda Lewis and Special Education teacher Jo Edan Parker, the event provided a day of sports and fair activities for nearly 300 students.   Nearly 100 special needs children were escorted through 14 events by peer tutors from each of the junior high schools.  Mapleton Jr.

At Mapleton Junior High School service learning is very important.  As you may have read before MJHS hosts a Service Learning class in order to provide additional opportunities for our students to serve the community.  The MJHS Service Learning class has recently participated in two awesome activities and is preparing for a third.

            It was Spirit Week this week at Mapleton Junior High. Spirit Week is one of the very best traditions we have at MJHS. Everyday has a different theme. Monday was Spirit Day. Spirit day allowed the students to show their school spirit. They did this by wearing our school’s colors and showing their Mustang pride. Tuesday was Tie Day. On tie day students were able to wear their favorite tie. There were crazy ties, funny ties, and elegant ties. Wednesday was Wacky Hair Day.

Mapleton Junior High School has had a busy week. While it was a short week due to the Labor Day holiday it wasn’t short on events.

The MJHS Cross Country team had their first meet of the year at Spanish Fork Junior High on Thursday September 10th. It was a district wide meet with some tough competition. Megan Robinson (8th grade) took 2nd place overall in the District. Overall the team showed some promise and we anticipate great accomplishments from them this year.

Students started a brand new school year at Mapleton Jr. High!

Mapleton Junior High School’s Service Learning class started five years ago and has already changed the lives of many--both the students and the members of the community that they have served.  Mrs. Robyn Card, the teacher of this class, provides the opportunity for kids to learn the benefits and value of service. This class is truly out to make a difference in society and the lives of others – especially those who take the class.
