Mrs. Malzl is from Hawaii, and has lived in Austria and speaks German. Her favorite color is burgundy, and her favorite food is local Hawaiian (of course). She loves to travel to Hawaii and Austria and hopes to be teaching math in Hawaii within the next 5 years....maybe?!
We love Mrs. Malzl, and hope she stays around here for more than 5 years! She is a great teacher who loves the students, and they love her!

WHAT IS A HOPE SQUAD?
HOPE Squads are the eyes and ears of your school. They are comprised of students who are trained to watch for at-risk students–provide friendship, identify warning signs, and seek help from adults. HOPE4UTAH works with school advisors to train students who have been identified by their classmates as trustworthy peers to serve as HOPE Squad members. Through evidence-based training modules, HOPE Squad members are empowered to seek help and save a life.
On February 8th, young adult literature author Chris Crowe came to speak with the 8th graders at Mapleton Junior High about his book Mississippi Trial, 1955. Dr. Crowe is also an English professor at Brigham Young University. He described his experience with writing his book, which is based around the story of 14 year old African American Emmett Till. Till was visiting his uncle in Mississippi during the summer and made the mistake of whistling at and flirting with a white woman at a general store.
