Sage Mortimer Wins Gold

Sage Mortimer had the opportunity to represent the United States at the Pan-American Wrestling Championships in Medellin, Colombia. She took 1st place earning a GOLD medal for team USA! She is one of the youngest girls in the US to compete at an international wrestling tournament. Craig Lamont, head coach of MJHS wrestling team, traveled to Colombia to coach her. There were thirteen countries represented there. Team USA took 3rd place overall with only seven girls competing, winning 2 Golds, 3 Bronze and 2 5th place. It was an amazing experience.

Spirit of the Mustang - October 2016

The Spirit of the Mustang award for the month of October is Mailani Ovard.

 

Mailani has exemplified our school’s motto this year of making a Mustang Difference by being a champion for students, being kind, and going the extra mile.

 

Mailani is dedicated to her students, and she empowers her students to succeed. She started the school year off giving her students a pep talk expressing her confidence in them and letting them know that they matter. Everyone matters to Mailani.

David Jex Honored at BYU Football Game

David Jex, Mapleton Junior, was honored at the BYU vs Toledo football game on Friday, September 30. David Jex teaches health, physical education, and weight training. He is the athletic director at Mapleton Junior and the on-site supervisor and Shadow Mountain. David spent countless hours this summer at Shadow Mountain making camp a positive experience for all 712 Nebo students who attended.

HOPE Squad Retreat

On Monday the members of the 2016-17 HOPE Squad went to Shadow Mountain for their annual retreat. The students were introduced to the HOPE Squad advisers and the goals and objectives for the year were laid out. Throughout the year the students on HOPE Squad will be trained in QPR, which stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. Students will be trained in recognizing warning signs in their peers, persuading them to get help and referring them to an appropriate resource in order to get help. The intent of HOPE Squad is to offer hope through positive action at MJHS.

PTO Raffle Tickets Winners

Last week during parent teacher conferences the PTO held a raffle for BYU Football tickets. Ellie Savage and Jacob Memmott each won 2 tickets to the BYU vs Fresno game this Friday.  Thank you to our PTO for holding a a fun givaway!
