US Synthetic visits MJHS
Representatives from US Synthetic (based in Orem) came to present information on problem solving to the Intro to Information Technology class on Thursday. Their company focuses on a problem solving cycle that they call PDCA which is an adaptation of the scientific method. Students were ask to implement this cycle while creating replicas of a model, lego airplane. Teams tried to build as many planes as possible in three minutes, then evaluate what problems kept them from making more planes, and tried to eliminate those problems during the next building phase.
Student of the Month - January
Mapleton Jr. High School is pleased to announce the Students of the Month for January 2015. Each academic area selects one outstanding student per grade level to represent their department for student of the month. In order to be selected these students must show superior academic achievement along with exceptional citizenship. The MJHS students of the month were invited to a pizza party to celebrate this fantastic accomplishment. The students of the month for January are (listed by academic area):

Art 2 Guest Artist
Guest artist Ryan Woodward visited the Art 2 classes at MJHS today. Ryan works as an animator and storyboard artist. He shared examples of his work on various projects such as Thor 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 2, Cowboys and Aliens, and many more. He also demonstrated how to create animations on free apps. Today Mr. Hobbs art class had Cam Kendall a special guest artist come to visit and show his talents to the students.

Spirit of the Mustang - January
Brittany Lundell desires the best for her students. She is kind, understanding, and empathetic to students who need extra attention and support. She has innovative ideas and makes appropriate accommodations to help students succeed. Brittany focuses on the individual student and helps each student feel valued.
Brittany is constantly learning and strives to improve her teaching practice through reflection and by implementing new ideas and strategies.
Springville High Girls Softball
Springville High School Softball Open Gyms will begin Monday, January 5th from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Project Teddy Bear
The Hope Squad with the generous of support and help of MJHS students collected nearly 800 teddy bears for the Teddy Bear Project 2014 Bank of American Fork in Spanish Fork. The bears will be given to the Family Support Treatment Center in Orem, the Family Support Center in Midvale and House of Hope in SLC and Provo.
