Students and faculty at Mapleton Jr. High School recently attended a fun filled and somewhat zany assembly where their contributions to a good cause resulted in quite a spectacle.  During December students raised money by donating cash or buying a wrist band at school.  That money was then used to purchase Christmas toys for children in our community through the Sub for Santa program.  This effort was done in conjunction with UCCU Credit Union and resulted in a generous donation from the students of MJHS.  Previous to the assembly a variety of students and faculty had agreed to complete crazy dares if a certain amount of money was raised.  Fortunately for those who watched and unfortunately for those who participated, the goal was reached and all the dares were performed during a school wide assembly.  There was a wide variety of dares performed which included, oatmeal bobbing, eating of strange items, waxing of legs, several dancing contests, ice-cream & toppings dump, and many more.  “It was a fun way to start the holiday break” said one teacher and another staff member commented “the kids loved that assembly”.  The event was a huge success and many thanks go out to Mrs. Rowley and the student government students that organized it as well as all those that participated in it.
