Dear Students and Parents,

MJHS Virtual Talent Show

Singing, dancing, martial arts, uni-cycling, baking, stand-up comedy, extreme sports, etc.! We want to see your talents and we are offering prizes for the top acts! Here's how you can participate: Send a one and a half minute video (or shorter) of your talent to Mrs. Mohler: jessica.mohler@nebo.edu with your name and grade by Friday, May 8th. The compiled talent show will be sent out to everyone the following week. Please note that videos that are longer than 1.5 min. may be cut down for time.

Academic Progress - TAKE ACTION NOW if Needed!

Once again we want to remind everyone to finish strong… We have been so impressed with the level of engagement and progress we have had so far with “at home learning”. Keep up the great work! Please be aware that those students that don’t have a passing grade right now in one or more classes (have an I grade) need to immediately contact their teacher by email. They need to simply ask - “what do I need to do to pass” and then be willing to respond and work with the teacher. Teachers want every student to be successful and are committed to respond and work with ALL students to make sure they can pass their classes!  If this applies to you or your student, please know that teachers will work out a plan to get you to pass and get credit for this term! We are so grateful for the positive support you have all given us over the past month plus. We live in an amazing community and we are so grateful for your support.

Yearbook Purchase

Yearbooks for this unique year have not been canceled, however, after speaking with our publisher, it looks like the printing of our yearbooks has been delayed due to Coronavirus. Because of this we are planning a “drive through” yearbook distribution as soon as they come in (likely in June). If you haven't yet purchased a yearbook, but would like to do so, we still have some extra copies available and you can order one by calling Mrs. Carey in the financial office and paying through a credit card transaction - 801-489-2892 ext. 3.

Social-Emotional

We are also very concerned about the social and emotional health of our students at this time. Our counseling department is working hard to meet with students via phone calls or video conferencing. If you would like to meet with a counselor please reach out directly by email or phone - 7th grade Eric Baum, 8th Grade Kirsten Hullinger, 9th Grade Dave Murphy, Responsive Services, Kate Henderson, School Psychologist, Amanda Bushman. Mustang Message 4/20/20

Dear Students and Parents,

As I’m sure everyone has heard by now, we will not be returning to regular school for the rest of the year. We understand that this was a decision the governor and state school board made with a lot of consideration. Nonetheless, we are also very sad that we will not get to work with our students face-to-face. We really have missed them so much. Please stay tuned for up-coming information on end of school procedures, including locker clean-out, Chromebook returns, instrument and library book check-ins etc.

Academic Progress - TAKE ACTION NOW if Needed!

Last Friday was mid-term for Fourth Term. We have been so impressed with the level of engagement and progress we have had so far with “at home learning”. Keep up the great work! Please be aware that those students that don’t have a passing grade right now in one or more classes (have an F or I grade) need to immediately contact their teacher by email. Yearbooks

Yearbooks for this unique year have not been canceled and will be printed and delivered to the school. However, after speaking with our publisher, it is likely that the production of our yearbooks (along with most other schools) has been delayed due to Coronavirus. Because of this it is possible that yearbook distribution will happen after the last day of school. As soon as we know more we will let you know. It will be our goal to get yearbooks to students as soon as we have them here at the school. If you haven't yet purchased a yearbook, but would like to do so, we still have some extra copies available and you can order one by calling Mrs. Carey in the financial office and paying through a credit card transaction.

April 15, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may have heard, Governor Herbert and State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson have extended the “soft school closure” until the end of the school year.  Although we are disappointed that we will not be able to work with students in our usual manner, we understand why the decision was made and fully support them.  That being said, we now will need to address a variety of very unique situations.

Our hearts go out to the Senior Class of 2020.  The senior year is a very important part of the K-12 school experience.  Please know that we are exploring ways that we can address issues specific to 12th grade students such as graduation, yearbook signing, grading, credit, etc.   Any suggestions or ideas from parents and students should be sent to their school administration.  You will be receiving more detailed information regarding those events as details are finalized.

There have been questions asked about possible changes to the lunches being served and the current school year calendar.  Please be aware that we will follow the 2019-2020 school year calendar as posted.  The last day of school will be May 22.  Lunches will continue to be served at locations throughout the district.

The goal of Nebo School District and local schools is to continue to provide your student with a quality education through an online curriculum.  Teachers will continue to provide online learning experiences and will be communicating through email or other online platforms throughout the remainder of the school year.  Although these learning conditions are not ideal, we are extremely appreciative of the efforts made by teachers, parents, and students to adjust to this temporary method of instruction.

If you or your student are experiencing difficulties adapting to online learning or are in need of assistance, please reach out to your student’s teacher, counselor, or principal.  There are many resources available for those in need.

Nebo School District and your local schools will continue to communicate with you as we find solutions to the variety of challenges that are being sent our way.  We would like to thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate this challenging situation.  We truly believe that by working together, we will be able to successfully complete this school year.

Sincerely,

Scott Wilson

New Updated Information:

Governor Herbert has Extended Utah's Soft Closure through the end of this school year. A letter from the Nebo School District will be coming shortly to explain what this will mean for our students.

Mustang Message 4/13/20

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome back to school... well, “at home learning” anyway. I am so proud of all the efforts students are making to stay caught up in their classes and continuing to work so hard in these unusual circumstances. Teachers are working hard too, keeping content coming to you and staying in touch with students to answer questions. I truly hope everyone had a good Spring Break with some time away from school work, getting a mental break with some rest and rejuvenation (or at least some yard work done;)

Grading Options for 4th Term

During this time of uncertainty, we recognize the hard work of both teachers and students. In an effort to minimize the anxiety and stress felt by teachers, students, and parents, we are allowing students a choice regarding how their final grade in each class will be recorded on their transcript for 4th term. At the end of the term, a teacher will submit a letter grade for the class. After the grade is submitted by the teacher, the student can choose to keep the standard grade given or move to a pass/fail grade.

 - Please note that the standard grades of A through D- can be changed to a “P” grade. An F grade cannot be changed.

 - A “P” grade will count for academic credit and will not affect GPA. (Please note that a “P” grade may affect eligibility for NCAA, Regents, or possibly other programs.)

MMHS Chamber Orchestra Auditions for 2020-21

The MMHS Chamber Orchestra is a small ensemble at Maple Mountain High School made up of the top players in the orchestra program.  The audition packet and video submission is due on Monday, April 27th, 2020. No applications will be accepted past this time. Please visit www.mapletonorchestras.org for all audition instructions and information.

Stay Safe and Stay Home

Governor Herbert’s Stay Safe, Stay Home directive is still in place. We are asking parents and students to limit your visits to the school to necessary business only - for all other questions or concerns a phone call is prefered (801-489-2892). Teachers are willing, ready and available through email. Additionally, an appointment to speak with a teacher by phone or through a face to face online application may also be arranged through email. Remember - the key is to communicate your needs with the teacher which should happen mainly through email. All teacher emails can be found on our school website - here is the link: http://mjhs.nebo.edu/faculty  Teachers have committed to respond within 24 hours of receiving an email. The school building and the front office will remain open everyday M-F from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Reminder for Nebo Grab-N-Go Meal Sites

Beginning Today,, April 13th, Grab-N-Go meals will be available at free sites only. All other sites will be closed down in an effort to consolidate resources. Yearbook and other Financial Information

The reason for waiting is that if we are able to return to school after May 1st as is currently planned, some of these events may be rescheduled and will happen then. Please be aware that the yearbook is NOT canceled and will be distributed at the end of the year. If you would still like to purchase a yearbook we will have some extra copies available and you can order one by calling Mrs. Carey in the financial office and paying through a credit card transaction.
