Mapleton Jr. High School is pleased to announce the April 2016 Students of the Month. Each academic area selects one outstanding student per grade level to represent their department for student of the month. In order to be selected these students must show superior academic achievement along with exceptional citizenship. We are happy to announce the implementation of the SafeUT Crisis & Tipline Services. SafeUT is a new tool designed to provide confidential two-way communication with SafeUT crisis counselors or school staff through the SafeUT Mobile App or Web.

The SafeUT CrisisLine provides 24/7 crisis intervention and emotional support in any type of crisis.  Students can call the Crisis Line and speak directly to a crisis counselor or start a CrisisChat through the mobile app or web.

Congratulations to our very own Ellizabeth Wheeler who is a 2016 CUSF Award winner! Ellie competed against hundreds of students across the state of Utah and was selected as the 3rd Place winner in the Biochemistry and Chemistry category. She had an amazing project and did wonderful work. I would attempt to explain her work but I would not do it justice, SO please ask Ellie to explain her project when you see her as she is a real expert!

This year, MJHS reignited their Service Learning class. Both 8th and 9th grade students registered in the class have had opportunities to serve the school and community. For example, the class joined the Miss America Pageant and Shoes 4 Love to run a school-wide shoe drive, collecting a total of 2,714 pairs of shoes. To help the school increase anti-drug awareness, Service Learning hosted a Red Ribbon Week. This included a culminating assembly with a visit from Utah County's Deputy Sean Carter and his amazing partner Havoc.

The teacher I am nominating for the Spirit of the Mustang is dedicated and talented in many diverse ways.  Of course this could be said of every teacher in this room today. A few of the particular talents possessed by this teacher include origami, photography, drawing, original super hero costumes, and the patience of Job. This teacher is a fan of Star Wars, Calvin & Hobbes, Lord of the Rings, and helping students be successful.

Toptal STEM scholarships for Women

Toptal.com will award 12 scholarships to aspiring female computer scientists, developers and software engineers. Every winner will receive $5,000 and a year of weekly one-on-one mentoring by a Toptal senior developer. 

Drill Team Tryouts begin on Monday, March 28 at 6 a.m. in the MMHS Main Gym.  Girls interested in trying out should have received a packet at the information meeting held on March 14.  Extra packets are available at the MMHS main office.  The packet contains important information regarding what needs to be completed before the tryouts.
