Each month the faculty at Mapleton Junior High presents the Spirit of the Mustang award to a faculty member that embodies the school mission statement of "Students are the focus - Success is the goal".   These individuals go above and beyond.

In October, the award was passed to James Hubbard, Social Studies teacher at MJHS, with the following remarks:

"I chose to give the spirit of the mustang to a teacher who in their classroom students really are the focus
and success is the goal. This person is James Hubbard. James really cares for his students and helps
them succeed in any way he can. Here are a few reasons James is deserving of the spirit of the mustang.
• James has really incorporated learning targets in his class. Parents and students have both
expressed how helpful these learning target sheets are. Each student knows where they are at
in each learning target and they know what they need to do to master the learning target.
• James has a positive learning environment in his classroom. Each week he spotlights a student
who has done well in class that week. He prints off a certificate and posts it in his classroom for
the week. He also creates class competitions to help promote “good starts” to class.
• James is a team player. He is willing to help others on the faculty and presents solutions when a
problem arises. He is a mentor to some interns and is also the history team leader.
These are just a few reasons James deserves spirit of the mustang. Congratulations James."
