Students get made-up at Paul Mitchell 289.2 KB

Our special education class from Mapleton Junior High recently got pampered at Paul Mitchell The School – Provo. We have been leaning about hygiene and the steps we need to take to keep our bodies clean and healthy. We had the opportunity to go to Paul Mitchell The School – Provo to learn about hair care and to have our hair washed and styled. We were apprehensive about this trip because of the varying needs of the students and whether the salon would be able to accommodate each student’s needs.

The moment we walked in the door of the salon our fears were erased as we met the schools staff. They warmly welcomed us and took the time to meet each student individually. The staff was very entertaining as they taught a mini-lesson on how to brush our hair, wash our faces, and the importance of taking daily showers. Each student was then partnered with a peer tutor and a staff member from the school to have their hair washed and styled. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that each student felt comfortable and was having a good time.

One student was nervous to get his hair done. To make him feel more comfortable the staff had him observe other students, use the combs and styling products, and play in the chair until he was ready to have his hair styled. When he was done they told him how handsome he looked, and for the rest of the day he told everyone he saw about his new “handsome hair.”

While the boys waited for the girls to finish their hair, the salon hosted a paper airplane flying contest. It was very considerate of the salon to plan additional activities to make the field trip even more enjoyable. Once everyone had their hair washed and styled the staff at Paul Mitchell The School – Provo lined the salon and cheered as each one of our class members walked down the aisle to show off their new hair. We are so appreciative of Paul Mitchell The School – Provo for this great experience and their warm welcome to our class. We can’t wait for next year!
