Mapleton Junior High MathTeam Wins Again!
In just their second year competing, MJHS MathTeam beat out all the other Junior High teams in Utah county to claim first place at the MathCounts chapter contest in Highland on February 1st.  The written contest, consisting of two individual rounds and a team round, challenged the students ability to problem-solve using algebra, geometry, combinatorics and number theory. The team, led by top-scorer, 8th grader Tyler J. and team captain 8th grader Morgan B., posted a season high 40.5 points.  Tyler also took 1st individually, while Morgan got 3rd, and 7th grader Daniel C. placed 5th overall.  Two other MJHS students, 8th grader Jared H. and 7th grader Spencer S., were just outside of the top 10.  Other students competing were 8th graders Owen M., Josh J., Morgan H., Jay G., and 7th grader Parker J.  All 10 Mapleton students did great, and represented the school admirably.  With the victory, the team and top scoring individuals will prepare for the State MathCounts competition held in Salt Lake on March 7th.  Way to go!
