Meeting Our Learning Targets at MJHS

We are currently in the midst of our Bullseye campaign at Mapleton Junior High School.  Teachers and Administrators alike may present tickets to students for accomplishing anything related to meeting their learning targets.  A drawing is held each Friday to award students candy bars, meal coupons, movie passes, etc.  Pictured are two of our winners, Haley Case and Nikolas Malzl.

Collage of Cultures/Utah Studies

The Utah Studies students have been busy learning all about the Native culture of Utah. They spent some time comparing the Native culture to their own culture. They were able to see similarities and differences. The students made their own Collage of Cultures and the following students did an outstanding job!  Pictured: Jodi Ashton, Summer Woodward, Daisy Diaz, Ana Taylor, Kayden GordonMonserrat Morales, Gemma Hansen, Rebecca Gee and Cedar Madsen   Great Job!

Celebrate National School Breakfast Week

The Nebo School District is celebrating National School Breakfast week March 3-March 7. The 2014 theme for this annual event is "Take Time for School Breakfast".  Throughout the week we have numerous activities including prize giveaways in the cafeterias and both a school and district-wide art contest. Students can enter their school's art contest for a small prize. The winner at each school will then be submitted to the district-wide contest. We will choose 4 district-wide winners who will receive bicycles as a grand prize!

Tyler Haws Makes a Visit to MJHS

BYU basketball player, Tyler Haws, stopped by MJHS last week to visit with a few of our classes.  He spoke for a short time and then posed for a few pictures.  Above is a picture of Tyler with a group of students from Ms. Burton's class.

We appreciate Tyler's generosity in taking the time to drop by and visit.  The students were thrilled. 

A Sweet Prize for our Show a Little Love Campaign

During the first two weeks of February, MJHS launched a campaign to encourage students and parents to start following our school on Facebook and Twitter.  Social media is a great way to keep our MJHS Community connected.  All 2nd period classes participated in the contest by having students submit a signed form with signatures of individuals who "liked" and or "followed" us on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Springville Mayor Recognizes Students from MJHS

Sam Mele, 9th grade and Kate Nadauld, 7th grade, were recognized by Springville Mayor Wilford Clyde and the Springville City Council as outstanding students and were presented the Mayor's Recognition Award in January 2014.   Principal Anderson nominated Sam providing the following comments, "Sam is an excellent example.  I love his positive energy and great attitude towards life".  Mr. Baum, 7th grade Counselor nominated Kate.

Spirit of the Mustang - February

Each month the faculty at Mapleton Junior High presents the Spirit of the Mustang award to a faculty member that embodies the school mission statement of "Students are the focus - Success is the goal".   These individuals go above and beyond.

Congratulations to the January Students of the Month

Mapleton Jr. High School is pleased to announce the January 2014 Students of the Month. Each academic area selects one outstanding student per grade level to represent their department for student of the month. In order to be selected these students must show superior academic achievement along with exceptional citizenship. The MJHS students of the month were invited to a pizza party to celebrate this fantastic accomplishment. The students of the month for October are (listed by academic area):

Grant Awarded to Michael Nalette, US History Teacher at MJHS

Michael Nalette, US History teacher at Mapleton Junior High received a grant from the Nebo Education Association to purchase three classroom sets of the young adult historical fiction novel by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier titled “My Brother Sam Is Dead”.  The novel realistically depicts what happened during the American Revolution with an in-depth look at the Revolutionary War and how this important event in our nation’s history allowed people to gain freedoms and start our country.
