The faculty and staff at Mapleton Junior High are amazing.  The choice was very difficult because every teacher here at Mapleton makes a difference in the lives of the students we teach.  I have been told that the person I am nominating has never received the Spirit of the Mustang, even with all his years here at Mapleton Junior High.  He quietly goes about doing his work and changing the lives of the students.

The Spirit of the Mustang this month goes to Benjy Frame. Benjy is a genuine person and the students can feel that he cares.  Benjy has worked with students as a coach and has guided them to achieve their potential in their sporting events.  More than that though, is how he is always looking for ways the make learning meaningful and yet not overwhelming to students who struggle.  Benjy uses memorization techniques for the capitals of the world.  He also uses  computer programs that look like a games, but actually help with memorization of countries and capitals. He has visual aides to help students study for tests.  He lets the students have choices when doing their country reports, but is organized enough to have specific questions that can be applied to each country helping the students with their research.  He has a graphic organizer letting the students know what information needs to be in each paragraph of the essay they write about the country.  He has alternate ways that students can retake tests. It seems like a small thing, but for any student and especially the student who struggles it makes a difference. He is willing to look at a student and say this is what this student needs. He creates a way for them to learn and not get frustrated.

Benjy is always willing to work with teachers who help students in his class.  He makes it easy to work with him and does it with a positive attitude. He goes about his job without looking for recognition because it is not about him. It is about the students. Benjy you are wonderful to work with and a great teacher.  Go Benjy! Go Mustangs!
