Each month the faculty at Mapleton Junior High presents the Spirit of the Mustang award to a faculty member that embodies the school mission statement of "Students are the focus - Success is the goal".   These individuals go above and beyond.

In March, the award was passed to Kim Gerke, Vice Principal at MJHS, with the following remarks:

I would like to honor Kim Gerke with the Spirit of the Mustang Award this month.  I have taught for 18 years in Nebo School District and have been lucky enough to have worked with Kim almost all of those years.  He was a counselor at Springville Junior High for many years.  I enjoyed working with him and remember him coming in to teach my CTE Intro class with the career development lessons.  He did a great job and the students enjoyed learning from him.  Kim also collaborated with the CTE department at SJHS.  He helped in many capacities at Springville Junior.  He helped students and teachers with personal issues, helped make the master schedule, and helped lead with accreditation and any other programs he was put in charge of.

He moved to Maple Mountain High School and helped there in the Counseling department before he came here to Mapleton Junior.  He has great insight knowing what the students need as they advance to high school.

I’m so happy that he is our Assistant Principal here.  He completes all of his assignments and makes changes as needed.  He devotes time to all of the students at Mapleton Junior.  He works with the high achieving students as well as the at risk students.  When meeting with them he uses his counseling skills and his love to encourage better choices and future success in their lives.  He listens to each of us as faculty members and supports us in all things.  Kim quietly goes about the everyday tasks and meets challenges in a positive way.

Not only does he serve us here, but he serves as a Branch President at the MTC in Provo where he devotes many hours each week.  I would be thrilled to know my son or daughter would be watched over and instructed by him.  He is a wonderful friend and creates unity here at our school.  Congratulations Kim!
