Each month the faculty at Mapleton Junior High presents the Spirit of the Mustang award to a faculty member that embodies the school mission statement of "Students are the focus - Success is the goal".   These individuals go above and beyond.

In January, the award was passed to Justin Johnson, Science teacher at MJHS, with the following remarks:

I present the Spirit of the Mustang to Justin Johnson. While laboring through his first year teaching, Justin has juggled many other responsibilities. He has helped with the tennis and basketball teams and put countless hours into the development and guidance of our students. I have seen him the day after he stayed up all night working on a video or lesson plan (still smiling). I have seen him strive to make the Latinos in Action class a meaningful learning experience for his students. His style is a nice blend of academic work mixed with character ed. He seems to instinctively know when to joke around with his students and when to really challenge them. Justin is consistent and hardworking. He is incredibly gifted but noticeable humble. He quietly goes about serving those around him. When it is time to go home he lives an exemplary life as a husband and father to his beautiful little girls. Justin is genuine-what you see is what you get. I would like to recognize Justin Johnson’s hard work and dedication by selecting him to receive this month’s Spirit of the Mustang.  Sincerely,  Zack Beddoes
