Each month the faculty at Mapleton Junior High presents the Spirit of the Mustang award to a faculty member that embodies the school mission statement of "Students are the focus - Success is the goal".   These individuals go above and beyond.

In December, the award was passed to Zack Beddoes, PE teacher at MJHS, with the following remarks:

I am excited to present this individual for the Spirit of the Mustang.   I have known this person for 7 years now, and have worked side by side with him at Mapleton Jr. High School for the entire duration.  From the beginning, he has consistently identified himself as a team player and supporter.  Because of his knowledge, continuous education and research, and support of our teams’ professional learning community, we have taken our instruction and program to a whole new level.  Examples of this are;

1.  Provides current data and studies to evaluate the direction physical education is moving.

2.  Given the leadership and follow through needed to initiate, carry out, and assess new ideas and opportunities for students to succeed at a high level.

3.  Shows support and excitement on good things every educator is doing to promote success.

4.  Provided access to other schools including Brigham Young University, to provide programs, funding, student teacher opportunities, and given Mapleton Jr. High the most extensive physical education program available in the area.

He exemplifies incredible professionalism in everything he does.  His students respect and feel his sincerity in the classroom.  Parents admire the sense of equality felt in the classroom for each individual participating.  He has high expectations and goals set both for himself and his students.  They know he will demonstrate by example all that they are required to do.  To me, his greatest quality is his focus on being a team player.  No one ever feels unequal or unimportant in their suggestions, teaching methods, or ideas.  He always provides everyone around him with the sense of being important and better because of his influence.

Without a doubt, he will be highly successful and influential in whatever program or institution he chooses to be part of in the near future.  It is my recommendation that Zack Beddoes be considered ready and capable in every way to represent our school this month with honor and integrity as the Spirit of the Mustang.

Brother in Battle,
