Faculty members had leg hair waxed, pie thrown in their faces, performed raps and one precious beard was shaved off during an assembly held to reward students at Mapleton Junior High School for their fundraising efforts on Tuesday.

To support their fellow student Breann Hatfield, who is battling osteosarcoma, students sold bracelets imprinted with the words, "Kickin' Cancer's Butt -- Believe in Bre," written on them, raising more than $3,500. A generous outpouring of support for Hatfield who, still undergoing aggressive treatment, has yet to attend the ninth grade.

"It's amazing. You look at these kids, 12, 13 years old, taking the time to support someone else, it's truly amazing," said Hatfield's father, Van Hatfield, who attended the reward assembly in his daughter's place.
