Mustang Message 11/16/20

Dear MJHS Parents and Students -

Welcome JoLynn Ford - New MJHS Principal

With the anticipated opening of Maple Grove Middle School next school year, I will soon be leaving MJHS and starting as principal of the new middle school, beginning January 1st. The Nebo School Board of Education has recently appointed Mrs. JoLynn Ford as the new principal here at Mapleton Junior High School. Although I am very sad to say goodbye to our amazing students and awesome faculty here, I am also excited to begin the work of opening Mapleton’s brand new middle school. I want to extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Ford and assure her that she will love MJHS and the community it serves!! To read more about Mrs. Ford’s appointment click here - http://www.nebo.edu/news/3249

National Education Support Professionals Day

Wednesday, November 18th is National Education Support Professionals Day, and with that we want to let all our custodial staff, school secretaries, classroom technicians, school lunch workers, bus drivers and school nurses know how much we appreciate and value what they do for our school. Business runs so smoothly because of all of their dedicated work and efforts. Thanks again to OUR classified staff! It is when all of us work together, students, parents, faculty and staff that we may truly live up to our school motto: Students are the focus, success is the goal!

Information About COVID-19 Case Numbers in Nebo District

As you are all aware, the number of COVID-19 cases in Utah is on the rise with the consequences being felt even in our own district. Our health care professionals inform us that the bulk of confirmed cases continue to come from social and family interactions outside of school. If we are to avoid higher numbers here at MJHS we must all work together to take appropriate precautionary measures like: limiting after school gatherings and socializing, practice physical distancing, wearing a mask when physical distancing is not possible, and stay home if you are showing any symptoms of illness. For information about specific schools including MJHS, click the following link - Nebo COVID Counts by School

C’s B’s and A’s Before the Holidays

It’s awesome - It’s amazing - It’s C’s B’s and A’s before the Holidays - You can earn cash prizes if all of your grades are C or above - Here’s why and how: After Thanksgiving there are only 3 weeks until Christmas and then after Christmas you only have a few days until the end of the term. Because of this, 2nd term is traditionally when students get their lowest grades - we want to change that! We are hoping that every student will take the challenge to stay caught up and have only C’s B’s and A’s by the Holidays so that after Christmas your grades will be in good shape for the end of the term. Here’s how it will work... Every Friday we will randomly select six students (two per grade level) we will look up their grades and if they have only C’s and above they will win five dollars. If the student we looked up has a deficient grade the prize rolls over to the next Friday and a student could win ten dollars. So, get caught up and stay caught up because this contest will start this week and continue every Friday until Christmas. - Good Luck!

Centro Hispano COVID-19 Relief Funding

Please find attached a flyer (in English and Spanish) from Centro Hispano, a local non-profit organization based in Provo. They wish to let our school community know about financial assistance, available for all families of any race or ethnicity in Utah County who have been financially affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

National School Psychology Week 2020

By Lana Hiskey

Nebo celebrates all our school psychologists, and all they do for Nebo students.

During the week of November 9-13, 2020, schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive.

This year’s theme is “The Power of Possibility.” The word “possibility” implies hope, growth, resilience and renewal. Possibility suggests that even something as small as a seed can grow into something magnificent. The word “power” implies that things can and will happen. When we focus on what is possible, we have hope that students will grow, thrive and bloom.

Thank you Nebo psychologists for all you do for our students.
