Dear Students and Parents,

Thanks PTO for a Fantastic Teacher Appreciation Week

We want to tell our amazing Parent/Teacher Organization thank you so much for lifting “UP” our faculty and staff during teacher appreciation week. Your efforts were very appreciated - Thanks PTO

End of Level Testing Window Opens Soon

As you may have heard, the SAGE test has been removed and replaced with the Utah RISE test for 7th and 8th graders and the Aspire Plus ACT prep test for 9th graders. 7th and 8th graders will take these tests in their regular classrooms with their regular teacher. The 9th grade ACT prep test will occur in 4 sessions on two separate Mondays. The intent of this email is to let parents and student know that this testing window is about to open and testing will begin soon and continue through mid-May. Check with individual teachers for exact dates. Students will participate in the Language Arts, Math and Science portions of the test. We invite all students to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast so that they can be at their best as they show the academic progress that they have made this year.

Poetry Slam

Mapleton Junior High is celebrating National Poetry Month with our second annual school Poetry Slam on April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the cafetorium! Winners of the school slam will compete in the District Poetry Slam.  Requirements: 1) Poem must be at least 12 lines long. 2) No longer than 3 minutes. 3) Memorized poems have the best chance at going to District. Poems must be original. To sign up or get more information, go to your English teacher’s classroom or the drama room.

Spring Break and Spring Related Issues

Please be aware that Spring Break is coming up next week, April 1st - 5th with school resuming on Monday, April 8th.  At this time of year with trees budding, flowers blooming and sunny warm spring weather we have found it helpful to remind all our students of a couple of things that seem to increase in April and May. First, we remind everyone to please follow the school dress code and help us set the right academic tone and create a productive educational environment.  Second we remind students that, public displays of affection, like kissing, hand holding or amorous hugs are not permitted. Again, the reason is to help maintain the right atmosphere where high levels of learning and socially appropriate interactions for a school setting are the norm. Thank you students and parents for your help and support on these two issues

Track Parent Volunteers Needed

We are looking for parent volunteers to help at two upcoming track meets.  If you would like to volunteer to help with an event, please call the school and leave your name and number with the front office secretary Mrs. Rawson or email Coach Lines at leslie.lines@nebo.edu. The two dates that we need help are: April 19th & May 10th. Both at MMHS starting at 1:15 p.m. Track meets generally run between 2.5 and 3.5 hours. We will need your help for the duration of the track meet.  Thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time. **Prior experience NOT required

Dear Students and Parents,

End of Third Term

Please note that the end of the term is coming up quickly, on Thursday, March 14th.  That is just two weeks away. Students: Please check with teachers to get any missing work gathered, completed and turned in by each teacher’s cut-off date (usually several days before that last day of the term). Parents: please encourage students to work with their teachers to get any missing work or tests finished.  Be the Change... to achieve high levels of student success!

You Can Still Enroll in 9th Grade Honors English

We are extending the deadline for Honors English 9 applications through Friday, March 8. If you have an 8th grade student who wants to take Honors English next year and he/she has not yet turned in an application form, please complete and return the form by this Friday. Applications can be picked up from your English teacher, the counseling office, or from Mrs. Hatch. Please return the completed form, along with a writing sample, to your English teacher. Honors English is similar to regular English, but we study a little deeper and move a little more quickly. If your student prefers a more challenging class, make sure they apply for Honors.

Follow Up from 9th Grade High School Visit

Today all 9th graders visited either MMHS or SHS for Sophomore Orientation.  They received important registration information and forms. These forms need to be completed and returned on Friday, March 8th, with parent signatures.  The counselors from the high schools will be in our building on Friday to help students get registered and collect the registration forms.
